I recently joined the Cancervive Ride for Wellspring. This ride raises funds for people living with cancer through Wellspring Calgary. I invite you to help me reach my fundraising goal as I participate in a 1-day, 25/50/75/110 km bike ride through Banff National Park.
Back when I was first diagnosed, we joined Wellspring and started going to a weekly yoga class for people with cancer (and their families). It was really great, just being around people who were going through similar things but not being directly about “hey let’s talk about cancer because cancer cancer cancer”. We did that for over 2 years, as I went through treatment and began to recover. (and then COVID hit and yoga classes for people with compromised immune systems became impossible)
The weekly yoga class became part of our routine, and it was a great support to be connected with others in similar situations and to be able to develop a yoga practice. Every time we went downstairs to the basement studio, I passed a jersey that was hanging in the stairwell. It was from a previous Cancervive fundraiser, and I kept saying to myself that one day I’d be strong enough to do a ride like that again. It sure didn’t feel possible at the time, but it was a goal.
And here I am. I’ve recovered from treatment. My cancer is as close to remission as I’ll get, and I feel great. So it’s my turn to contribute by riding.
All of Wellspring's amazing programming is offered free of charge, and fundraisers like this are essential to their ability to continue to support people with cancer and their families as they deal with diagnoses, treatment, and facing mortality.
I've ridden in other huge cancer fundraising rides, but this one is small and local - all funds raised go directly to support the work of the 2 Wellspring Calgary centres.
I am cycling to support those living with cancer and their caregivers. Did you know 1 in 2 Albertans will get cancer in their lifetime? Wellspring Calgary is a charitable organization that supports, informs and empowers anyone diagnosed with any type of cancer, their caregivers and their families. They offer a comprehensive range of evidence-informed programs and resources free of charge and without referral, all under the vision that no one has to face cancer alone.
Every dollar makes a difference in the lives of someone living with cancer. Please consider supporting me in my efforts to have a positive impact on someone's life.
