Thank you to each of you who donated in support of my stairclimb! Together, we've raised over $1800 in support of firefighters and community members living with cancer. I am so grateful to be able to support Wellspring Alberta in this way. Your support has also motivated and encouraged my training and I can't wait to climb the 1,370 stairs in firefighter gear in Calgary's tallest building, Brookfield Place.
As many of you know, this cause is very personal to me. In 2021, my nephew Gavin died from a rare and aggressive childhood cancer after a year of chemo treatment and a failed attempt at removing his tumours through surgery. He was only 11 years old when he passed away and we are still grappling with the devastation and grief of this loss. I was very close with Gavin and miss him terribly. So, of course, I will be climbing for Gavin. I am also climbing for my dear Uncle Tony, who battled esophageal cancer several years ago. I'm grateful to say today he remains cancer-free, but he still deals with the effects both cancer and treatment has had on his life. As I climb, I will also be thinking of our other friends and family members who have been touched by this disease. This is for all of you.
As mentioned, proceeds from the event will support Wellspring Alberta, an organization that provides free programs, services and support to individuals living with cancer — those diagnosed, caregivers and kids. By donating, you are helping to make a difference in the lives of many! Thank you for helping us make a difference in the life of someone facing cancer so that no one has to face cancer alone! Wellspring Alberta will gift a portion of the proceeds to the Firefighters Assistance Charitable Society (FACS) whose mission is to empower and strengthen the firefighter by enhancing the success and resilience of the firefighter community.
