2021 will be my second year participating in the Calgary Stairclimb Challenge with an amazing team, Lamont County Emergency Services.
So why am I climbing? I'm climbing for those who can't, I'm climbing to supoort those who need it, and most importantly I'm climbing for someone very important to me who has battled cancer herself, my Captain. In 2015 my captain was diagnosed with skin cancer that lead to a toonie sized chunk of tissue being removed from her right cheek. Since then she had one more case of skin cancer that thankfully, she won her battle against. Without my Captain being by my side I am confident to say I wouldnt be the firefighter i am today. Day in and day out she continually works to show us all what a firefighter should be as well as what a person overall should be. I'm climbing this year proudly, right next to my captain because regardless of the battles you face, no one should fight alone.
Wellspring Calgary provides programs, resources and support to people affected by cancer so that no one fights alone. Because a prevalent occupational hazard of the firefighter’s job is cancer, Wellspring works to ensure the needs of firefighters are considered alongside the needs of all its community members.
Thank you for helping us make a difference in the life of someone facing cancer! For more information about Wellspring Calgary, visit www.wellspringcalgary.ca.
