This May I will be making partaking in the Calgary Firefighter Stair Climb Challenge for the third time. Normally this includes climbing the 1204 steps, 775 vertical feet, and 55 Stories of the Bow Tower in Calgary with a altitude of 4175 feet above sea level when done where you can look down at the top of the CN tower from the finish line, but due to COVID we are having to adapt. This means that this year stairs around the province will be used in place of the Bow Tower. For our team it is looking like we will be using some stairs in the Edmonton River Valley. Wellspring provides programs and support for those living with cancer (not just firefighters) so nobody has to face cancer alone. We at Lamont County Emergency Services are working to ensure that the folks at Wellspring can keep supporting those with Cancer. Cancer is one of the bigger risks firefighters face over their career with 17 presumptive cancers linked to firefighting. As someone who has been on the fire department since Feb, 2006 this means cancer is always something to be thought about. As well as having many family members diagnosed over the years making it so much more important to me that there is support for those who need it. Please donate whatever you can, no amount is too small as it all adds up.
